API Terms of Service
Version 2026-10-25
These API terms (the "API Terms") are an agreement between you (the "Partner") and Optana Ltd. ("Optana", "we"), a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16486606 with registered office at 21 Portman Mews, Aylesbury, HP19 7AX. They govern your use of the Profitr Catalogue API, its keys, data and documentation (the "API"). They apply in addition to our general Terms of Service; where they conflict, these API Terms prevail for the API.
By requesting access, generating a key or calling the API, you accept these API Terms on behalf of yourself and any organisation you represent.
1. Access and keys
- API access is granted at our discretion after review. We may decline or withdraw access at any time.
- Each account has one production key. Keep it confidential and server-side; you are responsible for all calls made with it. Regenerate it immediately if you suspect it has leaked.
- Do not share keys between organisations, or use multiple accounts to get around limits.
2. Plans, billing and overage
- Approved accounts receive 50 free calls once. Continued use requires a paid plan, billed monthly in advance via Stripe in GBP. No VAT is charged.
- Calls beyond your plan's allowance are billed in arrears at 125% of your plan's per-call rate, up to the overage safety cap you set in Settings → API. You are responsible for overage charges incurred with your key.
- Batch requests count one call per item returned. Usage shown in the API and Settings is our record of billable calls.
- You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period. Fees and overage already incurred are non-refundable except where required by law.
- We may change pricing with at least 30 days' notice.
3. Licence and permitted use
While your account is in good standing, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to call the API and to use and display the data it returns within your own products and services (for example, to price items for your users).
You must not:
- resell, sublicense or redistribute API data as a dataset, feed or competing pricing service, or let third parties query the API through you as a proxy;
- bulk-download or cache the catalogue to rebuild it outside the API (short-term caching for performance, up to 7 days, is fine);
- exceed or circumvent rate limits, caps or access controls;
- use the API for unlawful, misleading or abusive purposes, or to harm Profitr or its users;
- call the API from client-side code where the key could be exposed.
4. Attribution
Where you show API prices to end users, include a visible "Prices by Profitr" credit, linking to the item's market page (links.market_page) where practical.
5. Data and accuracy
- Market figures are automated estimates derived from third-party marketplace data. They are provided for information only and are not valuations, offers or financial advice.
- We do not guarantee that figures are accurate, complete or current. You are solely responsible for prices, offers and payments you make based on API data.
- We may change the valuation method; the version is identified by
market.method. Summary text is display-only and may change without notice. - The API returns no personal data. You must not attempt to use it to identify marketplace buyers or sellers.
6. Availability and changes
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may add, change or retire endpoints; breaking changes will ship under a new version path with reasonable notice where possible.
7. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your access, with or without notice depending on severity, if you breach these API Terms, fail to pay, or your use threatens the security or stability of the service. You may stop using the API and cancel your plan at any time.
8. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the API and its data are provided "as is". Our total liability to you for any claim arising from the API is limited to the fees you paid for the API in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profit, or for losses arising from prices or offers based on API data. Nothing limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
9. General
We may update these API Terms; material changes will be notified at least 30 days in advance, and continued use after that means you accept them. These API Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction. Questions: support@profitr.co.uk.
